What we’re doing this week:
This week, we’re starting a project to review 22 elearning courses for a client, along with their LMS. We’ll be looking at design standards, adherence to the company style guide, visual and instructional design, course structure, interaction design, usability and accessibility, and how they’re reporting is set up. Learn more about our elearning review service.
We’re also finalizing support documentation for the rollout of a performance support platform for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR). We’re excited to get to the launch phase of this 14-month project, which included a UX workshop, system selection, and implementation support. Brian will be traveling to Rwanda and Cameroon later this month to deliver training and perform additional user research (huge thanks to Steve Portigal for his Interviewing Users book).
Finally, this week we’ll also be kicking off a project to help another client convert instructor-led training (ILT) to elearning.
What we found interesting this week:
- Henneke on Copyblogger gives us tips on how to write conversationally.
“In a world of endless pixels and meaningless likes, we crave human connections and voices that resonate with us.” - Janet Effron shows us how to ask the right questions of our learning data.
- Julie Dirksen gives us a primer on complexity and learning.
- Jane Bozarth has good advice for all of us in dealing with the Cargo Cult of Training
“But without an understanding of instructional design, or of the basics of game mechanics, or of how people learn, all this is just a display of artifacts the creator has seen elsewhere. It’s adherence to form without regard to content.” - UXPin gives us 14 articles on Interaction Design. Great reads to help with your eLearning interaction design.
- David Lindenberg highlights a simple way to add some polish layers in Storyline.
