Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend the Texas Conference for Women. At a time where Texas state laws are impacting women’s rights, we were especially excited to learn that Malala Yousafazi would give the opening keynote at the event.
Who is Malala Yousafazi? We’re glad you asked. Check out her story – it’s fascinating. Together with her father, Malala founded Malala Fund in 2013 with a mission of ensuring every girl can access 12 years of free, safe, quality education. They work toward this mission through a combination of partnering with local education champions, providing a platform for girls to speak out about the issues they care about, and advocating for the resources and policies needed to help more girls learn.
In too many communities around the world, experience is equated with age and young people are excluded from decisions about their own futures and agenda-setting conversations. Girls who face the greatest barriers to their education often have the least visibility or access to power.
Malala Fund recognizes that young women are the experts of their own experiences — and their advocacy can enhance the impact and sustainability of change. Malala Fund believes that amplifying their voices, supporting their ideas and providing the resources they need to build their own movements is fundamental to achieving lasting progress for girls’ education.
The 18-month fellowship program is designed to build the fellow’s skills as advocates for girls’ rights and provide opportunities for cross-cultural learning to promote greater gender equality within their families, communities, and countries. Recently, Malala Fund welcomed 10 young women from Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria and Pakistan into the inaugural fellowship program cohort.
Learning Ninjas® believes in the power of young women and we are thrilled to announce our support for this program. The funding will support a Malala Fund fellow in Pakistan.
The program closely aligns with our mission to change the world through education. We look forward to sharing more information about the program’s activities as it progresses. Thank you to our clients and partners that make these Give Back partnerships possible.
